Ship Segments

220 ships, six ways to cruise.

Forget the brand labels. Cruise Market Watch grouped every ocean ship it prices on three things only: how long its cruises are, what each passenger spends per day, and how big the ship is. Six segments fell out of the math. Mega-Resort Weeks carry 41% of all passengers; the two luxury segments carry 3% of passengers but 17% of revenue.

How it’s built

Same data as Ship Revenue
Each ship’s 2027 sailings, cruise length, berths and revenue come from Cruise Market Watch Cruise Pulse data, the same estimates as the Ship Revenue page.
Let the numbers speak
Ships are grouped by k-means clustering on the log of cruise length, spend per passenger per day and lower berths. Members of a segment are most alike on all three; the names are ours.
Spend includes onboard
Spend per passenger per day is ticket plus onboard revenue, divided by passengers and nights, so it runs higher than the advertised fare.
